Conference 'Horses, Healthcare & Science, connected by Horsepower’

Congres PTB 12

Last Saturday (24th August), the Longines FEI European Championships were host to the conference 'Horses, Healthcare & Science, connected by Horsepower’. This conference centred around another extraordinary talent horses possess: the ability to assist professionals in interventions with vulnerable persons, such as children with autism.

The conference was international in nature. Guest speakers Nina Ekholm Fry and Rupert Isaacson from the United States, Martine Hausberger from France and Roswita Zink from Austria all shared their knowledge and discussed their experience with horses assisting in various treatments.
Experts Marie-José Enders-Slegers, Marloes Ernst en Machteld van Dierendonck from The Netherlands were also present. Special guest was Irene Sanguin from Italy, where animal intervention treatments have been included in the national health fund. She told more about how this was managed and what the results are up until now.
Both speakers and audience members were enthusiastic about this inspiring gathering. Perhaps there will be more editions of ‘Horses, Healthcare & Science’ in the years to come.
