Yesterday marked the first gathering of 2025 for the CHIO business clubs, Vrienden van het CHIO and CHIO Port Club Rotterdam. And what better way to start the year than at a spectacular location: Zalmhaven, on the top floor of the 190-meter-high Zalmtoren, the tallest skyscraper in the Benelux. The event took place in the recently opened Celest cocktail bar and restaurant, offering an extraordinary setting to ring in the new year together.

A Warm Welcome at Great Heights

Pieter Baan, chairman of Vrienden van het CHIO, opened the gathering with a heartfelt welcome. He expressed his delight at the strong attendance and extended his gratitude to Aad Timmermans and general manager Dennis Vermeulen for making this unique venue available. The 57th floor of the Zalmhaven tower, located in the bustling heart of Rotterdam, provided an impressive backdrop for this well attended networking event.

Dennis Vermeulen shared the intriguing inspiration behind Celest, drawn from Edgar Allan Poe’s story, The Unparalleled Adventure of One Hans Pfaall, which played a key role in shaping the venue’s concept.

Adding a special touch to the afternoon, Margot de Ruiter - Longayroux from Christie’s International Real Estate offered guests an exclusive tour of a stunning apartment in the Zalmhaven tower. This unique experience, provided by a member of the CHIO Real Estate Club, enriched the event for attendees from both CHIO business clubs.

The occasion also marked an important milestone: in 2025, Vrienden van het CHIO celebrates its 20th anniversary. Pieter Baan unveiled the special jubilee logo and shared exciting plans for a series of anniversary events, including a possible short trip. Additionally, he warmly welcomed Teamology, FiveStones Group, Bas Boer Noten 1974, Lamant VAT Services, Rotterdam Ship Repair, ArtdCom, and E-WNDR as new members of the business club.

Updates and Looking Ahead

Following the welcome speech, Jasper Nagtegaal, chairman of the CHIO Port Club Rotterdam, took the stage to provide an update on CPCR’s developments and upcoming plans. He encouraged attendees to introduce fellow entrepreneurs to the valuable business networks and opportunities within CHIO Rotterdam.

Next, Carolien Lavooij, chairman of CHIO Rotterdam, shared the latest updates on CHIO Rotterdam. Preparations for this prestigious event are in full swing, promising another highlight in the world of equestrian sports and Rotterdam’s business network. CHIO Rotterdam is part of the Longines League of Nations™️, placing it among the world’s top show jumping events. Last year, the competition attracted 14 of the world’s top 20 riders to Kralingse Bos, and expectations are high for another stellar lineup at the 76th edition in 2025.

Networking with a View

After the official program, guests enjoyed an informal networking session with drinks, all while taking in the breathtaking views over Rotterdam. The sophisticated setting of Celest, combined with inspiring conversations and valuable new connections, made this gathering an unforgettable start to the new year.

With CHIO Rotterdam 2025 and the Vrienden van het CHIO jubilee year on the horizon, we look forward to many more remarkable moments and successful collaborations within this strong business community.
