The Belgian Jumping riders have started this year in a promising way. Jérôme Guéry and Pieter Devos already won a Grand Prix in the Global Champions Tour – Devos is in currently in the lead – and Belgium had 5 riders at the FEI Worldcup Finals in Göteborg. No less than 3 Belgian riders are listed in the top 20 of the Longines Worldranking with Pieter Devos at number 7.

This seems to be a luxury position, however the Olympic ticket is not in the pocket yet. The shortest way to Tokyo is a an outstanding performance during the Longines FEI European Championships in Rotterdam. All Belgian riders are aware and under no circumstances do want the 2016 situation, with no Belgian team in Rio, to repeat.

This Friday will be a major contest as the Belgian riders will start their FEI Nations Cup course in La Baule. It would be best if they grab some significant points there. Chef d'equipe Peter Weinberg has several good combinations to choose from. However early July he will have to select his EC team. Pieter Devos, Niels Bruynseels, Nicola Philippaerts, Gregory Wathelet and Jos Verlooy have the honor to kick off the season. Up to them to impress.
