Peter Goedvolk decorated Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau
On Saturday, September 28th, CHIO board member and Rotterdam entrepreneur Peter Goedvolk was appointed Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau by King Willem-Alexander. The royal honor was presented during a celebratory event at the RDM Submarine Wharf by Deputy Mayor Robert Simons.
A Life of Innovation and Social CommitmentGoedvolk (1957) received the award for his significant contributions to the development of the Port of Rotterdam, his pioneering role in the energy transition, and his social commitment to various organizations. As the founder of Argos Oil, Goedvolk began his journey in 1984 with the purchase of a gas station in Piershil. He grew the business into one of the largest independent players in the European oil market, with around 650 employees across 10 countries by 2013. Despite his success in fossil fuels, Goedvolk was an early investor in alternative and sustainable energy sources, such as biofuels. Since 2014, he has served as the director of First Dutch, an investment company that supports sustainable innovations and growth. In combination with his work at S5 Agency World, Goedvolk continues to contribute to both employment opportunities and the sustainable development of the Port of Rotterdam. A Knight with a Big HeartIn addition to his business achievements, Goedvolk is actively involved in societal efforts. He is a board member at CHIO Rotterdam, the Rotterdam Entrepreneur Award, and the Economic Board Zuid-Holland. Furthermore, he is involved with Theater Walhalla and is a co-founder of Rotterdam Sport Icons, an organization focused on promoting sports participation among underprivileged youth. The appointment as Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau is a recognition of his broad and long-standing contributions to both the Rotterdam economy and society as a whole.
