In Memoriam – Paul van Geloven

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Paul van Geloven on May 2nd, at the age of 85.
Paul was a familiar face at CHIO Rotterdam for many years, as well as at countless other equestrian competitions and events. Many will remember him as a ringmaster, a role he fulfilled with great dedication and expertise. During award ceremonies, he exuded natural authority, inspired confidence, and always maintained a calm presence. But Paul was more than that: he was a true horseman at heart, who had actively participated in all disciplines of equestrian sport. His experience, integrity, and warm personality made him beloved by many.
CHIO Rotterdam held a special place in Paul’s heart – it was there that he met the love of his life, Pam. Pam van Geloven was for many years the recognizable voice of dressage, especially when it still took place in the forest arena. Together, they were an inseparable duo in the equestrian world; at their peak, they were active at events 34 weekends a year across the country.
We remember Paul as a warm and welcoming person with a jovial spirit – someone who instantly made others feel at ease. He had a deep love for animals, and the animals, in turn, clearly loved him too.
In recognition of his longstanding service and commitment to equestrian sport, Paul was knighted in 2008 – an honor he richly deserved.
The funeral took place in a private setting.
On behalf of the board, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Pam, his family, and loved ones during this time of profound loss.
