On an afternoon filled with thrills and excitement, Andre Thieme became the fifteenth German rider in the 64-year history of the event to win the individual title at the Longines FEI Jumping European Championship 2021 on home ground in Riesenbeck (GER) today.

Riding the brilliant 11-year-old mare DSP Chakaria he went into the second of today’s two final rounds in pole position and, despite a mistake at the first element of the triple combination which proved the bogey of the day, held on to win.

Silver went to defending champion, Martin Fuchs from Switzerland, who also lowered the same fence on his last tour of the course with Leone Jei, and bronze went to recently-crowned Olympic team gold and individual silver medallist Peder Fredricson from Sweden with Catch Me Not, who hit the second fence and added a time fault.

Germany’s Christian Kukuk and Mumbai finished fourth, and Belgium’s Nicola Philippaerts (Katanga v/h Dingeshof) and Pieter Devos (Jade vd Bisschop) finished fifth and sixth.
