The Rotterdam Markthal is also called the Dutch version of the Sistine Chapel
Did you know that the Markthal is also called the Dutch version of the Sistine Chapel by the artwork 'Horn of plenty' (Horn of Plenty) by Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam.
You will encounter a covered market hall in more metropolises, but Rotterdam has a world first thanks to the combination with homes. The apartments are draped over the fresh market in horseshoe shape. In the hall is the market with about 100 fresh units, about 15 food shops and several restaurants with a supermarket and four-level parking garage below.
If you walk through the market stalls and look up, you will see the work of art 'Horn of plenty' (Horn of Plenty) by Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam. Because of this largest artwork in the Netherlands, the Markthal is also called the Dutch version of the Sistine Chapel.
The Markthal is open seven days a week until 8 pm in the evening. Look here for more information.
